Zidane explains his violent behavior
By Alfred Johnson
Zinedine Zidane states he didn't regret the unexpected and violent outburst last Sunday at the World Cup Final match which ended his 18-year professional career.
Zidane and Materazzi exchanged expressions after Italy broke up a French attack in extra-time. Seconds later, Zidane lowered his head and hit Materazzi in the chest basically knocking him to the ground.
Zidane’s act of violence was the closing statement for his professional career and many believe it to be the black mark on his formidable legacy. Zidane will retire after the tournament, and he stated Wednesday his decision was definitive.
For the moment, FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened disciplinary proceedings against Italian player Marco Materazzi. The judicial process was initiated by the French player Zinedine Zidane who indicated in an interview that his actions came in response to constant provocation from the Italian player.
The Committee is projected to reach a pronouncement later and this will be announced in a media release.
