Raiders after Russell
By Alfred Johnson
During the recent draft for next 2007-2008 NFL Season, the Raiders had their chances to select capable quarterbacks over the first round.
In 2006 the Raiders scored 12 offensive touchdowns and last Saturday they had their choice of strong-armed JaMarcus Russell of LSU or the more polished Brady Quinn of Notre Dame.
If the Oakland Raiders use first pick, it is very likely it will be Russell and could trade down and acquire extra picks. As long as they don't go below No. 4, they are guaranteed to get what appears to be a great offensive player, plus additional help.
This year a contract for the top pick is expected to consist of nearly US$30 million in guaranteed money which puts some pressure as a mistake could set back the franchise for years.
