New Coach for the Steelers
By Alfred Johnson
So Mike Tomlin will be introduced; the Steelers will hold a press conference at 3:30 p.m. today to announce their new head coach. Tomlin will become the 16th head coach in Steelers’ history after coaching as defensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings in 2006.
Tomlin, the team's third coach in 38 years, accepted the position Sunday night and the hiring was public early Monday with the contract to be completed later in the day. He was negotiating a four-year contract of approximately $2.5 million a year with possible bonuses upon performance.
Tomlin's hiring will likely bring a shakeup in the Steelers' coaching staff less than a year after they won the Super Bowl. In one hand, we have Grimm who will not return after being passed over, followed by 69-year-old defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau and his renowned zone blitzes which are likely to be gone as well.
