Matthew Smith
Akron, Ohio (AHN) - Tiger Woods secured his 52nd career title Sunday at the Bridgestone International. He is now tied with Byron Nelson fifth on the all-time winner's list.
Woods finished 10-under and pocketed $1.3 million.
Woods rebounded after Saturday's performance when he shot four consecutive bogeys, his longest such streak since 1996.
Sunday he came back from a two-shot defecit to take a three-shot lead with four holes to go, but managed to lose the advantage and was forced into a playoff with Stewart Cink, although Woods admitted he was "lucky" to still be playing.
Woods shot an even-par on the overtime hole while Cink missed three relatively short strikes at the cup.
Cink told reporters, "There were a lot of highs and lows today. Unfortunately, I finished on a low."
Woods has won five events at Firestone, the most of any courses he's played. Woods also won his last four starts, the most since 1999 when he captured victories in six straight starts
The 30-year-old Woods will seek No. 5 in a row up next at Deutsche Bank Championship outside Boston.
