Holyfield Comeback against Jeremy Bates
By Alfred Johnson
The match started when Holyfield rocked Jeremy Bates into the ropes late in the first round, then a few strong shots to his face during the, then Holyfield earned a technical knockout with 4 seconds left in the round, acquiring his first victory since June 2002.
It was quite impressive how Holyfield took care of Bates especially for a 43-year old contender who was considered to be out of shape and with no future, but he finished as a world-class fighter. Boxer Holyfield came into this fight having lost his previous three, and after a 19-month layoff, it would have come as no real surprise to see him struggle against even a second-rate fighter such as Bates.
Holyfield feels so good that he's already lined up a tough next fight against Sinan Samil (Sam of Turkey), fifth in the latest WBC ratings. A formal fight statement is expected next week.
