Schoeneweis agreement on $10.8 million, a 3-year deal
By Alfred Johnson
The Mets may not have had much success in recruiting new starting arms, but it appears the team will have a near airtight bullpen, as it was reported the Mets are closing in a three-year deal with reliever Scott Schoeneweis.
Schoeneweis split last season between Toronto and Cincinnati, going 4-2 with a 4.88 ERA and four saves in 71 games. The 33-year-old was traded from the Blue Jays to the Reds on Aug.16th and excelled the rest of the year, going 2-0 with a 0.63 ERA and three saves in 16 appearances.
The New Jersey native had a sparkling end maintaining his opponents off the board for the entire month of September during the Reds' playoff push, and allowing just one run over his final 19 appearances.
Next April when Baseball starts once more, we should see if Schoeneweis will be able to keep up the outstanding work as to have the Mets place in the first positions.
